Coyote safety:

Coyotes are widespread wild animals to see while hiking in the wilderness, but they are also not uncommon to see in urban areas. Able to weigh 9-23 kg, they can be extremely dangerous as both giant animals and small pets. When you see a coyote, make yourself big and loud. Keep eye contact with the animal the entire time. Even waving your arms is a great way to scare them away. Immediately pick up small children and pets and ensure they are not trying to chase the animal. DO NOT RUN AWAY, but slowly move backwards while maintaining eye contact.
